Homemade Barbecue Sauce



Barbecue Sauce
Makes about 1 1/2 cups
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons butter
8 ounces tomato sauce (home canned, if available)
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/2 to 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
1/8 teaspoon ground tumeric


Combine onion, garlic and butter in a 2-quart pan and cook on medium-high heat until softened.  Stir in remaining ingredients and continue cooking until sauce is heated through.
